FAQ's

Do I need a referral from a doctor or other medical professional to obtain music therapy services?

No. While some clients are referred to music therapy by a member of their healthcare team (such as another allied health professional), many clients or their loved ones will self-refer. Prior to services commencing, a consultation and assessment session(s) will need to be completed by music therapist. Some insurance companies will require a doctor’s referral in order to be eligible for benefits.

Will MCP cover the cost of Music Therapy sessions?

No, private music therapy services are not covered by MCP.

What is the difference between a music lesson and a music therapy session?

Great question! Music lessons involve formal music learning; acquiring a new musical skill such as learning how to play and perfect an instrument, learn about music theory, etc. Aesthetics and achieving a desired sound are the primary focus. In music therapy, the goal isn't to increase a client's musical skills. Music therapy addresses non-musical goals and objectives using musical mediums to help clients achieve said goals and objectives. In music therapy, there is no such thing as 'good music' or 'bad music'.

Is there a waitlist for music therapy services?

At the moment, there is no waitlist for services. As always, please email sparkmusictherapynl@gmail.com if you wish to enquire about music therapy services. From there, your therapist will let if you know if there is a waitlist and how long the wait may be.
